In November of 2005, Gail, Miles, and I went to India to participate in the wedding of Rahul Bharadwaj, the oldest son of Vinod and Uma Bharadwaj, whose family, with their three daughters Neha, Gunjan, and Richa, have been our dear friends since we met six years ago.

We spent 10 days in Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan. These pictures chronicle our stay. The Bharadwaj family was staying at Vinod's father's house located by the Railway Bridge. You will see a giant tent structure being built in the yard over the period of a week, part of the many preparations for the matrimony, the engagement ring ceremony being the first big event.

There were new happenings everyday as more and more family came in from other cities and towns to join the festivities, always with music and always with dancing. They even managed to give me a birthday party, twice actually, once in the morning and again at night.

The actual wedding took place two days after the ring ceremony on the outskirts of Jaipur. We all met by the statue of the giant Hanuman monkey god and proceeded to walk and dance the groom (on a white horse) for about 3 kilometers to the waiting bride.

The last 5 days of our trip were spent in Hong Kong, where we stayed at the lovely Kowloon Shangri-la Hotel.
